Chapter 34 Mistakes Never Fade Away
Chapter 34 Mistakes Never Fade Away
"We went to the same high school. But he went abroad in his first year in college. You didn't know that?"
Gracelyn paused. She didn't know that at all. Jovanny left at a young age. She thought Jovanny had lived abroad since his childhood.
"No." Gracelyn turned to Jovanny. "Why didn't you come back before?"
Nolan said," Looks like he didn't tell you. He studied in Summer City and seldom came back. You didn't come across him... Oh, you knew each other before?"
Gracelyn said, "Yeah. We were neighbors."
"I see." Nolan took a tumble. He patted his thigh. "I see! You grew up together!"
Jovanny glanced at him. "Keep eating!"
Nolan shrugged his shoulders. "Come on, Jovanny. Why didn't you tell us you had a girlfriend? No wonder you didn't even tell us you came back. Shall we hang out sometime?"
"Let's talk about it later." Jovanny didn't want to stay with Nolan because he was a big-mouth.
As Nolan spoke, Jovanny was nervous, afraid that Nolan would have a slip of the tongue.
"Hey, I put my work aside to have a meal with you..."
Jovanny didn't want to waste his time. He pressed the button to call the waiter over.
The manager came to deal with their bill with a plate of fruits served, smiling, "Do you like the food here? Any suggestions would be appreciated."
Nolan waved his hand. "Yeah. I like the food. How much?"
The manager smiled still, "200 dollars. You can pay with your voucher. Then you will still have a voucher that is worth 130 dollars. What else would you like?"
It made Gracelyn and Nolan confused.
What did he mean by a voucher? Since when had there been a voucher available in this restaurant?
Jovanny hurriedly said, "Bean curds, please. And we'd like to take out these meatballs. Thank you."
"OK. Please wait a minute."
After the manager left, Gracelyn asked in a low voice, "Why do you have a voucher?"
Jovanny said seriously, "No idea."
Nolan scratched his head, not knowing why Jovanny did so.
With the takeout, they left. Nolan sat in his car and watched them walk across the street.
Then he surprisingly found that Jovanny got onto a pink motorbike.
"Damn..." Nolan was shocked, staring at the motorbike. Then he looked back at his chauffeur in shock.
"You saw that?"
The chauffeur said, "Yes."
"What? I am confused!"
"Me too."
"Never mind." Nolan waved his hand. "Go. By the way, check out that man's identity. Her ex."
He needed to investigate Gracelyn to figure out Jovanny's plan.
Nolan, who was rich, felt bored and wanted to do something fun.
After Gracelyn gave Jovanny a ride, Jovanny took the food to his grandfather's house. And Gracelyn went home.
Philip sat on the sofa alone. There was an opera on TV. With a crutch in his hand, he closed his eyes and hummed.
He seemed in a good mood.
Jovanny put the food on the table and touched the box. It still felt warm.
"Grandpa, eat first." Jovanny walked over and patted him.
But Philip remained still with his eyes closed. He stopped humming.
Suddenly, Philip said, "Jovanny, your dad called me."
Jovanny paused with a complex expression. Then he calmed down. "Just eat."
Philip opened his eyes and looked at him. "Are you sure you don't want to go back?"
"No."
"Alas..." Philip sighed and looked away with empty eyes. "He made a mistake. But it has been years. He is your father."
Jovanny was silent for a while. Then he sat next to Philip.
"Mistakes never fade away with time."
Philip turned to him, opened his mouth, and didn't know what to say.
It was a conflict between his son and his grandson.
"It's all my fault." Philip shook his head in guilt.
Jovanny pinched his shoulder and said, "Time to eat. Or the food will get cold."
Philip shook his head. "I don't want to. Back then, your dad was as young as you. Or maybe younger. Aged 25, he was in his prime.
"He pursued freedom...and love. I thought he was crazy and forced him to get married and have a son." Philip thought back.
"Later, he married your mom. Your mom was tough. They had conflicts. Then I realized I made a mistake."
But it was too late. They had a son.
They didn't go home frequently. And once they were at home, they fought.
Therefore, Philip left them with Jovanny. They lived in a small town for a peaceful life.
At the age of 8, Jovanny was taken away by his mother.
At that time, Jovanny's parents had got divorced because his mother found out about his father's affair. His father spent a lot of money on another woman.
Jovanny's mother was tough. She went to the mistress, only to be pushed by his father, who got very emotional.
His mother was pregnant. But she lost the baby because of that. Then she was totally disappointed.
She even hated Philip too. So she left with Jovanny.
Philip murmured as he held Jovanny's hand. "Jovanny, you haven't got married yet in your thirties. I worry that you might have been affected by your parents and lost hope for marriage."
Jovanny frowned. "Why did you say that?"
"I'm old. I may not have the chance to say that if I don't do it now."
"Stop talking nonsense."
Philip pulled a bitter smile. "Don't get nervous. Everyone dies. I just want you to know not all marriages are terrible.
"You need to support each other. One-way love never lasts long. Grace is a good girl. Don't keep her in the dark. Or you'll regret it."
Jovanny was silent.
"You are different from your dad. He wanted love. But you don't believe in love. What could I do? I could only force you to get married.
"If you had a crush, I wouldn't have done that."
"What's the point?" Jovanny felt strange.
