Chapter 7-8
Chapter 7-8
"Take this card and I'll transfer the living expenses to this account every month. Is 3,000 dollars a month enough?"
Shocked, Gracelyn waved her hands frantically once she recovered. "That's too much. The three of us won't spend a lot of money. I think 2,000 dollars is enough. And I won’t take advantage of you. You only need to transfer 1,000 dollars to it. I'll put 1,000 dollars in it every month too. If any of us wants to buy something expensive, we'll sit down and discuss it."
Jovanny stared at her with a thoughtful look, musing, "She clearly wants money. Yet, she offers to split the living expenses with me, claiming she doesn’t want to take advantage of me. What's she up to?"
Jovanny pushed the card in front of Gracelyn. "Just take it. I promised you that I would cover the living expenses. I've stooped so low to leech on a woman."
"Don't get me wrong... I can accept it. But I want you to know that I won't quit my job. I want to keep on working."
"OK. It's up to you."
Jovanny looked around the home. "Which is your room?"
Gracelyn blushed slightly and pointed at the bedroom on the right. "That one."
"Then I'll take the one next to it." Jovanny stood up, his gaze cold. He walked straight toward the room on the left and said to Gracelyn curtly.
"Save your dirty thoughts for yourself. We don't know each other that well."
He shut the door with a loud sound. Gracelyn froze in place for a long time even after he closed the door. When she finally realized what he was referring to, she huffed.
"Who would have dirty thoughts about you?"
The next day...
Gracelyn put on her coat and was ready to leave the home. She looked at him in confusion. "Are you going out too?"
"I'm going to the market for water. Let's go."
There were two markets in the area. Gracelyn gave him the direction of the nearest one. When she opened her mouth to say something, she heard a voice that ruined her mood. She jumped and cursed inwardly.
"Grace, why did you block my number and block my account on Line?"
Though Jovanny was standing next to Gracelyn, Patrick didn't notice him until then. He looked at Jovanny in shock.
Before he met Jovanny, Patrick was confident. He was tall and could be called handsome sometimes. And he had a job with a more-than-average wage. However, when he stood in front of Jovanny, he realized that he was no match for Jovanny when it came to appearance.
"Is this your husband?"
"Yes. That's him. I'm married now. Stop pestering me."
"I don't believe it. He must be an actor you hired to fool me." Jovanny was too charismatic to be a normal man. Patrick couldn't believe that a man like him would marry Gracelyn.
He looked at Jovanny up and down before saying, "Are you two really married?"
Patrick was enraged when Jovanny simply ignored him. He pointed at Gracelyn with an accusing finger. "Is this your choice of a husband? I doubt he even likes you."
"Do you like me?" Gracelyn looked at him coldly. "Patrick, I don't want to see you again. Take the hint."
"Grace, do you even know him? Do you understand what kind of man he is?"
"He's my husband. Let me worry about what kind of man he is. It's none of your business."
Jovanny froze briefly when he heard Gracelyn call him her husband. The tips of his ears were red and he hurriedly averted his gaze.
Gracelyn strode away and Jovanny blocked Patrick's way as he tried to follow. Caught off guard by Gracelyn's aloofness, Patrick balled his hands into fists, knuckles cracking.
"Do you know Gracelyn's true color? We've dated for two years. When we talked about marriage a few days ago, she insisted that I should add her name to the deed of the house my parents bought me with their hard-earned money. What's more, she asked for 200 thousand dollars as a betrothal gift. When I said I couldn't afford it, she broke up with me."
Jovanny wore a strange expression and sneered after his eyes roamed through Patrick's face. After a while, he said, "I don't know what her true color is. However, you're badmouthing her behind her back. That's not what a decent man would do."
Jovanny turned around and walked away. Patrick froze in place and shouted angrily at his back. "You'll regret marrying her eventually."
Patrick gritted his teeth furiously and thought, "I wonder what Gracelyn sees in this man. He's obviously just a gigolo."
As soon as she arrived at the office, Gracelyn got a call from her uncle, Brandon Bart.
"Grace, I was busy when you called me yesterday and missed the call. Is there something you want to talk about?"
Gracelyn said, "Yes. I want to talk to you about the house."
Brandon didn't say anything. After a while, he said, "Grace, I've found a buyer. Once we come back to town, I'll complete the transfer procedures. It's my only choice."
"No, Uncle Brandon. Why can't you sell me the house?"
The bank had given Gracelyn a positive reply about the loan. But it took time to finish the procedures for approving the loan and giving the money to her account... Thinking about the time limit, Gracelyn unblocked Patrick on Line and texted: "Pay me back the money as soon as possible. Don't make me sue you." She blocked him again after sending the message.
At that moment, Marina Louisa, her co-worker, ran into the bathroom and pulled Gracelyn's arm excitedly. "Gracelyn, the handsome client I told you about is here."
