Married to the Billionaire by Chance

Chapter 15 I Lied to You

Chapter 15 I Lied to You

"Well, I went to see a friend, and we chatted late into the night. I am so sorry."

His expression was still cold. "I don't care whom you went to see."

Gracelyn was silent for a while and felt awkward. Then she lowered her head to change her shoes. "Have you eaten?"

"No."

She paused and looked up at him in surprise. "Did you see my Line message?"

"No."

Gracelyn didn't reply.

"Has Philip eaten?"

Jovanny didn't answer or move. He was wearing a black woolen sweater which accentuated his icy face.

"I will make spaghetti for you." She sighed.

Philip should be sleeping now. It was inappropriate for Gracelyn to wake him up and ask him to eat dinner.

She went to the kitchen quietly and made spaghetti for Jovanny.

Then she walked to him with the spaghetti and put it in front of him, saying, "You should eat it now while it is hot."

He stared at her indifferently and made her uncomfortable. She wondered if she offended him today.

"It will ... stick together later," she said timidly.

Jovanny averted his gaze and looked down at the spaghetti. Then he forked it into his mouth.

Gracelyn heaved a sigh of relief silently.

He ate the spaghetti gracefully. His fingers were slim and made the fork seemed shorter.

"Is it good?" She looked at him expectantly.

"Just so so."

Although he didn't admit the spaghetti was delicious, he finished it.

Gracelyn felt guilty that he had to eat all of it despite the bad taste.

After marrying him for several days, she finally found something good about him.

With that thought, Gracelyn felt hopeful and took his empty plate with a smile. "If you don't like this, I can make other kinds of food for you. You should go to bed now. You need to look for a job tomorrow, right?"

With that, she took the plate to the kitchen.

Jovanny stared at her back, and his face softened a bit. He had eaten this afternoon and didn't know why he still ate the spaghetti.

He felt rather full.

Gracelyn came out of the kitchen and saw him swiping his phone. She didn't say anything and took her pajamas to take a bath.

The moment Jovanny sent a message, a call came.

He picked up and heard a hubbub and a man's voice. "Jovanny, have fun with me. You have returned for a long time but refused to hang out with me. Why are you so busy with your company?"

Jovanny frowned and asked, "Where are you?"

"I'm currently at a bar. Are you planning to join me? I can share the location with you."

Jovanny didn't turn him down and asked, "Aren't you married? Why did you go there this late at night?"

"Why should my marriage prevent me from enjoying myself? I'm not confined to a jail. Such a weird question."

Jovanny was silent for a while thinking what the man said.

"Are you coming or not?"

"It's so late, but you are still not at home. Where is your wife?"

"She's home. Well, there is something wrong with you. Oh, I see. Philip urged you to get married, right? You want to know what marriage is about. So, you asked me those questions. Trust me. I will tell you all about it."

"No need. You have fun." Jovanny hung up the phone with a stern face and looked up to see Gracelyn walking out of the bathroom.

She was wearing fluffy pajamas, and her wet hair draped over her shoulders. Her skin was rarely exposed. She looked more careful than when she was at work.

Gracelyn glanced at Jovanny and hesitated before sitting opposite from him.

"Jovanny, I have something to tell you."

"What is it?" He put down his phone and stared at her.

She bit her lip and felt nervous. But he would know about it sooner or later.

Gracelyn mustered up her courage and said, "Well, my uncle will come next week. I don't know if you ever met him when we were little."

Jovanny asked calmly, "And?"

"This house is his, not mine," she said and lowered her head, continuing with determination, "I am sorry I lied to you."

She waited for him to reply.

However, he didn't say a word. She looked up at him, confused. "You have nothing to say to me?"

"What should I say?"

"You are ... not mad?"

Jovanny picked up a fruit from the table and slowly peeled it. "Why should I be?"

She was surprised by his reaction and added, "They planned to sell this house and give the money to my cousin for his wedding. I want to buy it but don't have enough money. So, I asked you to give me 35 thousand dollars."

Jovanny paused and glanced at her.

Well, since he knew the truth now, she might as well tell him everything.

"I thought once the house was mine, I would add your name to the deed. But I still don't have enough money to buy it. They are coming here, so I want to discuss this with you.

"If you are angry and think I cheated you out of money, I will return the money when I have it."

After a long time, Jovanny said, "So, you married me just to buy this house?"

Gracelyn nodded awkwardly, "Sort of. If you are not happy with this, we can divorce."

Jovanny didn't pay attention to what she said and asked, "You mean you would marry anyone who gives you 35 thousand dollars?"

She froze for a moment and didn't understand why he asked such a question. She scratched her face and felt the question was ambiguous.

She felt he meant she was an article of commerce and could be bought by anyone.

"I... Perhaps."

"You value a house more than a marriage?"

Gracelyn felt uncomfortable and stared at his indifferent face, saying carefully, "Didn't you also say that? You told me you didn't care whom you married."

Jovanny indeed said that when they first talked about marriage. That was why she decided to marry him because she wouldn't feel guilty.

He didn't know how to answer that.

He suddenly realized his question was stupid and looked away awkwardly. "Yes, I did say that. So, we can just take what we need from this marriage. You don't need to explain to me."

"Then what about the money?"

"I gave it to you. You can use it however you want."

Gracelyn heaved a sigh of relief. "Thank you. But when I buy the house and add your name to the deed, you can also benefit from it."

"Whatever." Jovanny didn't want to argue with her and continued to peel the orange.

Gracelyn peeked at his expression and noticed he wasn't angry. She nerved herself to say, "There is one more thing."

"Go ahead."

"My uncle might live here when he comes. You are sleeping ... in my cousin's room."

"Then I will sleep in another room."

"That is my uncle's room."

Jovanny paused again and raised his head a bit, staring at Gracelyn mysteriously.

"Then I..."

"You should go to Philip's."

Jovanny also proposed it at the same time. But Gracelyn's voice was louder. Silence ensued.

His face darkened.

She was asking him to leave the house?
