Chapter Seventeen
A King’s Revenge
Zack’s POV
I hated seeing people cry. I always thought that crying meant you were weak and trying to manipulate others. I couldn’t stand seeing someone cry.
Yet, when I saw Lily cry, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for her. Overall, she was a completely nice girl. It angered me to think about how those bastards at the Night Walker Pack wanted to take advantage of that.
“I’ll handle it, Lily. Don’t worry about it.”
I pulled Lily onto my lap and rubbed her back gently as I tried to wipe her tears and snot from her face. However, she tried to push my hand away from her.
“Don’t… It’s going to stain your clothes…”
“Well, consider it an act of kindness. However, I won’t hold back on punishing you next time you decide to cry and get my clothes all dirty.” I pretended to threaten her.
Yet, she seemed unbothered by my antics and sighed. “Just say you’ll kill me and get it over with…”
Tears continued to pour from her face and it only infuriated me further. The Fire Wolf inside me burned, matching the anger I felt. That’s when I decided that I was going to kill that sad excuse of an alpha’s son.
Actually, you know what, I won’t be the one to kill him.
I immediately picked up Lily and stormed out of the house as I tightly held her in my arms.
“Where are you taking me?”
I ignored her.
“Your Majesty, please! Where are you taking me?”
The Fire Wolf inside of me amplified my sense of smell. The horrible stench of that dog still lingered from the fight a few days ago, too. It was easy for me to follow his scent and find out exactly where he was.
When we arrived at the mansion, Lily looked up at me with a confused look.
“Where are we?”
“What, you’ve never visited the mansion of Alpha Leo’s son before?”
Her eyes widened. “N-no! Why are we here? Please, I don’t want to be here! What if we get caught?”
I couldn’t help but laugh. “Do you think I give a shit about getting caught? We’re here to get your revenge on the little brat for threatening my life and that of your parents.”
“What do you mean?”
“You’re going to kill him.”
Her eyes widened. “N-no. no! I can’t! I’m too scared! Please don’t make me do this!”
I ignored her pleas. I needed Lily to stand up for herself and see that in order to save a life, sometimes it meant taking one. If she really wanted to protect her own, she needed to see and experience that sacrifices had to be made.
When I found the smug bastard, I saw him leaning against the third-story balcony. When Alex saw me, he immediately called for his servants and maids to run and find help.
“Get the Alpha! Get the rest of the pack! Don’t let that monster near me!”
None of you are going anywhere.
“Cerberus!”
Within a fraction of a second, my loyal beast came to the entrance gate and stood behind me. He barked ferociously, which caused the servants and maids to back away.
“Good boy. If they try anything, consider them your appetizer before dinner.”
The servants and maids looked absolutely terrified and were rooted to the ground before Cerberus. They knelt before the great beast and huddle against each other.
I continued to take Lily into the mansion as we made our way up to the third floor.
“Please, Your Majesty. I can’t do this. I don’t have the heart…” Lily began to plead.
“I’ve never even killed a deer when I was old enough to attend the hunting expeditions with my dad. Please don’t make me do this!”
“For every word you speak, count it as another stab in Alex’s body; unless you shut up now.”
Lily covered her mouth in horror as she buried her head into my chest.
When we arrived on the third floor, I busted down every door until I found the one that Alex was hiding in. The little coward. After breaking 9 doors, I came across the last one and saw that the handle was locked.
When I tried to break inside, I could tell that it was barricaded.
I set Lily down and shifted into my Fire Wolf form. It was then that I kicked the door using a fraction of its power. It was more than enough to break through the door and shatter the furniture he used to barricade himself in the room.
I shifted back into my human form and marched up to Alex. I wrapped my hand around his throat and shoved him against the wall.
“You will pay,” I growled.
I shoved my hand into my back pocket and tossed the silver dagger to Lily. I already had no patience but somehow, there was less of it as I watched Lily fumble around and look at me nervously.
“Lily!” I barked at her. “You want to save a life? Take one. Don’t let this bastard threaten to kill the people you love and then let him walk around like he owns the damn place!”
I tightened my grip around Alex’s throat.
“But, Your Majesty, I-I can’t… I can’t…”
With my free hand, I grabbed Lily’s hand and yanked her in front of me. I draped my shoulder over her arm and placed my hand over her hand that held the dagger.
Then, I slashed the dog across the face.
Alex struggled to scream in pain with the lack of oxygen. His body wriggled and I had to suppress the smile that threatened to spread on my lips.
As the mutt struggled against me, I took Lily’s hand and made her thrust the knife into his stomach.
Alex let out a hoarse yelp while Lily screamed.
The coward’s blood splattered all over Lily’s face as she continued to scream. Her hand trembled under mine and I smirked as she tightly shut her eyes.
“Please! Stop! Stop!” Lily began to cry and scream.
I released my hold from around Alex’s neck and watched as his body slumped to the ground. The worm squirmed around on the floor before eventually stopping.
I smirked. Serves you right, you coward of a mutt.
Then I looked up at Lily who was crying profusely and shaking. I rolled my eyes.
“Your passiveness is going to get you and your loved ones killed one day. Had I not been here to show you the necessity of getting rid of your enemies, Alex would’ve killed your parents even if you did fulfill your end of the bargain. You did them all a favor.”
I walked toward Lily and stretched my arms out for a hug. “You should be thanking me.”
But instead, Lily pushed me away. She avoided my gaze and ran away.
There was a strange feeling in my chest as I watched Lily run away. I could only describe the sensation as an annoying ache in my heart.
Ungrateful. But, it was her first kill. She’ll come around eventually.
I took a handkerchief from my shirt pocket and wiped the blood off of my hands. After shifting into my Fire Wolf form, I ran from the mansion and back towards the villa.
Not even the burning sensation of the Fire Wolf, however, could numb the pain that continued to ache in my heart.
