My Sweet, Tyrant Lycan Mate

Chapter Thirty-Seven

Chapter Thirty-Seven

– We’ll Do This Together

Lily’s POV

I was stunned at the words that came out of Zack’s mouth. I knew something was wrong when the cut on his hand didn’t heal but I didn’t know it was causing him to die!

I exhaled a breath I didn’t even know I was holding as I waved my arm at him. “L-let’s just get you cleaned off at least… then we can talk about everything, okay?”

The bath I gave him was silent and awkward. When I ran the water it was as cold as I could get it. Now, it was like it was getting ready to boil.

I did my best to wash the blood and dirt off of him but couldn’t touch him for long periods of time. Instead, Zack ended up taking over for me.

Once he was finished, I led him to the bed and went downstairs to get as much ice and water as I could. My mind swirled with every step I took. I just couldn’t believe he was dying.

There has to be something I can do to help him…

When I got back upstairs, I got Zack to drink as much water as he could. I reached for his arm to see if it worked any, and I was surprised to feel that I could touch him this time. But he was still way too hot.

“Zack… You gotta tell me everything. Please. You can’t keep me in the dark like this, especially since I want to help you,” I gave him a reassuring look.

Zack nodded his head and took a deep breath as if collecting his thoughts. “I’m sure you’ve noticed the cut on my hand.” He held up his right hand to me. “It hasn’t exactly healed.”

“You told me it was because you lost too much blood trying to save me.” I took my finger and gently caressed the cut.

“And I wasn’t lying about that, but after a few days, I noticed that more was starting to happen.” Zack continued.

“My Fire Wolf’s been more uneasy, more… irritable. When everything with Isabella started to happen and I had to act like I was replacing you, he snapped and told me to burn the entire Night Walker Pack down.” He explained.

I raised a brow at him. “You’ve killed people before… You’re trying to tell me that him saying that is something new?

Zack nodded his head. “Yes. Usually, when he suggests I kill anyone it’s out of sport–he finds it fun.”

“But when you killed Anny, you said it was because she was loud and annoying to you.”

“Yes, to me. Not to him.”

My eyes widened at his admission.

Zack rubbed the back of his neck. “Don’t give me that look… That shouldn’t surprise you in the least after what you’ve seen me do after that.”

I sighed. “I suppose…”

He shook his head. “Anyway, that was when it first started. That was the first change in my Fire Wolf and that’s when I started to think that I wasn’t as in control as I thought I was…”

“It got worst last night after Miles and I found The Garden…” Zack struggled with his words as his face contorted in disgust. “I’d done and see brutal shit but what I saw there… Lily, it was bad.”

I placed my hand on Zack’s arm, wincing at the heat of his body.

Zack took my hand and placed it back on the bed. “I wish I could experience your touch right now… But even then it’s not enough for the Fire Wolf…”

When I looked into Zack’s sad eyes, I noticed that his right one was completely red. His left eye was still blue with the ends of them being red.

I didn’t even realize that I was staring at him with my mouth open until he pressed his finger underneath my chin to close it.

Zack gave me a half-smile. “I’m gonna explain that I promise.”

“The Garden… It was a breeding ground for lycans. My people weren’t being killed. They were being collected.” He bit off the last word.

“Miles mentioned Alpha Leo wanting to breed stronger lycans… Is that what The Garden was for?”

Zack nodded his head. “The newborn girl we took there had to pass genetic testing to make sure she wasn’t a carrier of any serious diseases. They were going to keep her there and feed her a strict diet and keep her monitored.”

“You said they were going to keep her there?”

Zack rubbed the back of his neck. “Sometimes you’re a little too perceptive…”

My eyes widened. “Zack… you didn’t…”

He shook his head. “I’m not that heartless, but… That’s what I was getting to. I lost control and my Fire Wolf took over.”

Zack looked up at me with a serious expression. “I burned that place to the ground, Lily.”

“B-but what of the other lycans? You said you weren’t that heartless but–”

He held up his hand. “I set them free… They begged me to kill them and at the time, I wanted to. But…” He forced out a chuckle. “I saw your face in the back of my mind. I remembered your feelings towards me killing.”

“And although I thought that they didn’t have a life outside of that hell hole, seeing your face in my head… I couldn’t bring myself to end their lives, no matter how much they begged.”

I was speechless. Zack had overridden his Fire Wolf’s desire to kill because of me? I wanted to be flattered but there were just too many emotions swirling around in my head.

“Lily…” Zack wrapped my hand in the blanket before taking it. “I’m willing to give it all for you. My life, my blood–everything. I dragged you into a mess that you have no right being in.”

“I know that I’m not perfect–I came from a past so broken that now the shards of it are threatening the life I want to build with you.” There was sadness in his eyes.

“Please… take it, Lily. My life, my blood–all of it! Give it to Alpha Leo, I don’t care!” Zack was beginning to get frantic.

“Whatever it takes to ensure that you live a peaceful life–I’ll give it to you, even if it means I won’t be there to experience it with you.” For the first time, Zack began to cry. But as soon as the water touched his cheeks, it evaporated because of the heat in his body.

“No!” My voice was stronger than I intended it to be. “I’m not going anywhere, Zack. We’re going to get through this together, okay?”

“We’ll find a cure–and don’t tell me there isn’t one because times and medicine change, okay? We’ll do this together!” I was almost on the verge of tears myself but I had to stay strong.

It broke my heart to see how hopeless Zack was feeling.

“It’ll get you killed, Lily.”

I shook my head. “We’ll figure it out together.” I softened my tone and smiled at him.

And just when I thought I was going to get a smile out of Zack, a bloodied Max broke down the door.

“Alpha Leo’s here!” Max’s eyes were wide with terror.
